Saginaw Wins the Battle of the Trojans

On Tuesday, the Saginaw Trojans (5-2, SVC) defeated the Detroit Henry Ford Trojans (4-2, DPSL) by a score of 72-57. 

The two teams played a close first quarter. The lead was at most three points in that opening period. Going into the second quarter, Henry Ford had a 13-12 lead.

The second quarter is where Saginaw began to pull away. They took the lead with 5:11 left in the quarter and never turned back. They outscored Henry Ford 18-7 in the second and took a 30-20 lead into halftime. 

The second half was even. Saginaw outscored Henry Ford 42-37 in the second half, a difference of only 5 points. 

Henry Ford was able to cut the lead to single digits in the third. Despite this, they were never able to comeback. Saginaw went on to win 72-57. 

Javerie Holliday, Dahon Sherman, and D’Laurence Clark had big games for Saginaw. Holliday shot 9 of 21 from the floor, including 3 of 11 from three. He had 21 points, 2 steals and 8 rebounds. 

Sherman was 4 of 5 from the field, including 1 of 2 from three. He totaled 11 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds. 

Clark shot 3 of 7 from the floor, including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. He had 10 points, 1 block, and 4 rebounds. 

Saginaw will go on to play Bay City Western (2-3, SVC) on 1-3. Henry Ford will take on Cass Tech (4-0, DPSL) on 1-3.
