Orchard Lake St. Mary’s looks to continue win streak against Oxford

The Oxford Wildcats will kick off their season on the road against one of the toughest opponents in the country tomorrow afternoon, the Eaglets

St. Marys comes into this matchup on a 25 game win streak and winners of 46 of their last 47.

Junior Owen Schihl will be on the mound to start for Head Coach Dave Herrick and the Wildcats. During the 2021 season, he recorded just above 22 innings pitched, finishing with four wins, a save, 35 strikeouts and an impressive .62 earned run average. He features a power fastball that reaches the high 80 miles per hour mark with a plus curveball to complement.

For the Eaglets, Head Coach Matt Petry will send out Sophomore Aidan Donovan. Donovan’s pitching arsenal includes a fastball that reaches up to 90 miles per hour along with a changeup to keep hitters honest. He pitched two scoreless innings in a scrimmage earlier in the year against Divine Child.

Senior captain Tony Hatzigeorgiou leads the way for the Wildcats offensively as he recorded 34 hits on a .420 average last season, three of those hits being home runs.

For Orchard Lake, Auburn commit Ike Irish has been lighting up pitchers this season. Lighting up could be an understatement, as he has recorded five hits in six plate appearances, with all of those hits accounting for four bases.

Head coach of the Wildcats Dave Herrick enters his eighth season as the head skipper for Oxford. He recently surpassed the 100 win mark last season.

Eaglets coach Matt Petry comes into this season as the reigning National High School Coaches Association head coach of the year and will attempt to win his fourth championship in his last seven seasons this year.

The back to back state champions will look to continue their perfect record this season as the Wildcats seek to pull off what would be a major upset. First pitch is set for 4:30 P.M. The link to watch live can be found on the St. Mary’s website: https://www.stmarysprep.com/.
