#1 St. Mary's Prep downs Oxford by 8 runs to continue win streak

Nick Lundberg | Wednesday | April 6, 2022 | 2:33pm

Number one nationally ranked Orchard Lake St. Mary’s defeated Oxford nine to one yesterday to move to four and zero on the season while Oxford suffers a loss in their first game of the year.

The game was tightly contested after two strong innings by Wildcat junior Owen Schihl and three by Eaglet sophomore Aidan Donovan but Michigan commit Nolan Schubart unevened the one to one knot.

He blew the game open with a deep three run home run to left field in the bottom of the third inning. St. Marys did not look back after that.

There was not a lot to celebrate for the Wildcats but one brightspot of the team’s day was senior captain Eddie Bieniasz. He went two for two on the day with one of his hits being by way of a solo shot. He also recorded a single, two walks, and a stolen base.

Senior Michigan State commit Jake Dresselhouse and junior Tennessee commit Blake Grimmer also added home runs of their own to help O.L.S.M. secure the victory.

One of the more surprising performances came from freshman pitcher Paul Toovalian. He came into the game in the fifth inning and completely dominated the Wildcat batters, going one-two-three with ease.

St. Mary’s will look to continue their four game win streak on the year at IHM field in Detroit against UofD Jesuit today at 4 P.M. The PreP will not be covering this game.

The next broadcast will be on saturday, April 9 at the field of the University of Liggett in Grosse Pointe at 11 A.M. The link for that broadcast can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/c/ThePrePSports
