Jack Zang leads Divine Child past Lutheran North in Cardinal final

Divine Child shutout Lutheran North 5-0 behind the efforts of senior Jack Zang in the Cardinal final yesterday.

The left hander Zang pitched all seven innings and recorded an astounding 16 total strikeouts.

He also only gave up less than three total hits in the outing. He truly dominated the Mustang hitters.

For Lutheran North, Calvin commit Connor Comiskey had a solid outing, but a couple errors made by his defense in the fourth inning and a lack of run support ultimately led to their loss. The senior Comiskey was responsible for only three of the five runs Divine Child scored and he recorded seven strikeouts in his six innings of work.

At the plate, senior John Millen was sensational. The All-Catholic infielder went 2-3, with a crucial two run triple in the first inning and a leadoff double in the fourth inning that he would eventually score on after an error by Lutheran North off of a Ben Corak bunt.

For the Mustangs, no player had more than one hit as Zang ran through their lineup, but the nine-hole hitter Zack Seleswki did get on base in both of his at-bats, drawing a walk in each of the two.

For Dan Deegan and Divine Child, this is their first Catholic League title in 14 years. Both James Lazaris and the Mustangs as well as Divine Child will have about a week to prepare for the D2 state playoffs, with their first games coming on June 3rd and 4th, respectively.
