In game two of the CHSL finals games, the number one team in the country, the O.L.S.M. Eaglets will take on fellow top-10 team in the state, according to The PreP, the Brother Rice Warriors.
The Eaglets will throw Kent State commit Ciaran Caughey to start the game. The All-League senior wields a fastball that will hang in the upper 80s and an 11/5 curveball with some bite to complement. He also is comfortable with his changeup. This season the right hander is a perfect 6-0 with 45 strikeouts and a sub .500 earned run average in 29 innings pitched.
For the Warriors, Michigan commit Alfredo Velazquez will be on the bump first. The All-Catholic left hander has a four seam and a two seam fastball that hang in the upper 80s along with a changeup and a curveball. On the season, he has a sub .300 ERA and 44 strikeouts to boot.
St. Mary’s has a litany of hitters that Brother Rice will need to take heed of, but maybe the most impactful one is Michigan State commit Jake Dresselhouse. The All-Catholic senior leads his team in hits, with 41, triples, with three, runs scored, with 44, and stolen bases, with 13. He is also tied second on the team with home runs at seven. He can truly do it all.
For the Warriors, junior Brayden Dowd will be a player that the St. Mary’s pitching staff must keep an eye out for. The All-League outfielder and left hander went 3-3 with a double, a home run and 3 runs batted in last time they faced off. O.L.S.M. can not allow him to have another performance like that if they want to repeat last year’s result.
Bob Riker and Brother Rice will look to end their 12 game losing streak against Matt Petry and St. Mary’s and their perfect season bid this afternoon at 5:30pm ET at Warrior Complex in Troy.
