Andrew Hanania | Wednesday | October 12, 2022 | 1:39pm
On Friday, the Detroit Central Trail Blazers (7-0, DPSL-G) will take on Detroit Southeastern Jungaleers (5-2, DPSL-G) for the second time this season. Detroit Central won the first matchup 35-20.
This is the Detroit Public Schools League-Gold championship game. Detroit Central currently sits in first with Southeastern right behind them.
These two teams have faced off 33 times in their history. Detroit Central won 20 times and Southeastern won 11 times. The other two games ended in a tie.
Detroit Central is coming off an impressive 62-0 win over Douglass. The win marked the team’s fourth shutout of the season. Central has outscored their opponents 278-33.
Southeastern is coming off an impressive win of their own, shutting out Detroit Communications Media Arts 66-0. Despite having two losses, the Jungaleers have outscored their opponents 308-75.
While Southeastern did lose to Detroit Central earlier this season, they did something no team has been able to do against Detroit Central this season, which is score 10+ points. In fact, of the 33 points Central has given up, Southeastern scored 20 of them in that loss.
If the first matchup between these two is any indication, we can expect this to be an exciting championship game. Not counting their first matchup this season, these two teams have combined to outscore their opponents 531-53.
The game will be played at Wayne State University and coverage will begin live on The Prep YouTube and NFHS at 3:45 with a 4:00 kickoff.
