Eaglets Take Down the Cubs

On Monday, the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Eaglets (12-10, CHSL-C) defeated the UofD Jesuit

Cubs (20-5, CHSL-C) by a score of 72-69.

Orchard Lake started the scoring, going on an 8-0 run to begin the game. At one point in the first

quarter, they led by 10 points, which would be their largest lead of the game. The Cubs ended up

fighting back and the Eaglets had a 17-16 lead going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Eaglets continued to hold on. They outscored the Cubs 14-11 and

ended up taking a 31-27 lead into the half.

The third quarter saw a ton of offense, as the two teams combined for 43 points in the third

quarter alone. The Eaglets had a 53-48 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Cubs fought in the fourth quarter. They tied the game a couple of times and even took a

short-lived lead. The last tie was within the final two minutes. Leroy Blydon stole the ball from

Trey McKenney and scored, tying the game at 67.

With exactly a minute remaining, Sharod Barnes went to the free-throw line and hit a pair of free

throws. This gave the Eaglets the lead, and they did not give it up again. They went on to win 72-

69.

Jackson Wasylewski was the GBrand G of the Game, with 7 points, including two late threes to

help secure the win. The senior talked about his performance in the game, saying “Today, it

could’ve been my last game as a high school senior, and I wanted to leave it all on the court.”

Trey McKenney played well for the Eaglets, having 30 points and 11 rebounds. Sonny Wilson

led the offense for the Cubs. He had 28 points and 7 rebounds.

St. Mary’s will take on North Farmington (18-1, OAA-Red) on 3-15 in the MHSAA Regional.
