Eaglets Score Late to Overcome Brighton at Home

On Wednesday night, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (2-0-0, MIHL-N) defeated Brighton (1-1-0, KLAA) 5-2. 

Orchard Lake got the scoring started in the first period. Junior forward Jack Moran scored a power play goal to give the Eaglets a 1-0 lead with 8:15 left in the period. 

Later on in the period, junior forward Brennan Morgan would score a phenomenal goal to extend the Eaglet lead. OLSM would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

Brighton would answer in the second period. Cam Duffany would score on a breakaway to cut St. Mary’s lead in half. 

Then, with 4:12 remaining in the second period, Dominic Vincent would tie the game. The game would remain 2-2 going into the second intermission.

The third period featured remarkable efforts by goaltenders Ryan Nickerson for Brighton and Michael Fett for Orchard Lake. In fact, both goalies played outstanding and made numerous saves in huge moments, especially Nickerson. 

The score remained tied until late in the third period. Hunter Morris would score with 4:18 left in the game to give the Eaglets a 3-2 lead. 

Matthew Waring would score two empty net goals, both of which were from across the ice, to make it a 5-2 final score. 

Brighton will play Muskegon Mona Shores (1-1-0, OK-G) on Friday as they look to bounce back. Orchard Lake will play Cleveland St Ignatius (1-1-0) on Friday as they look to remain undefeated.
