In game two of the four game CHSL semi final slate Friday at Comerica Park, Grand Valley State commit Owen Avery completely shut down the Cougars in Divine Child’s 3-0 win.
The senior Avery recorded a whopping 14 strikeouts in his seven inning complete game shutout. He was named the G Brand G of the Game.
For Marine City, junior Blake Lutzky did decent work in his six innings pitched, but his bats did not help his cause and that is what led to the loss. He recorded seven strikeouts but gave up three runs.
Infielder John Millen led the way offensively for Divine Child, as he got on base twice, recording an RBI single and a walk.
For Cardinal Mooney, the bats were pretty silent. The performance of the day for them came from outfielder and right handed pitcher Trent Rice. The junior reached base twice and stole a base each time he got on.
With the win, Dan Deegan and Divine Child will move on to face Lutheran North in the Cardinal final at Warrior Complex in Troy on Tuesday at 3 pm ET. Stay tuned as we will have coverage of that matchup.
