Cass Tech Advances to Finals

On Wednesday, the Cass Tech Technicians (22-1, DPSL) defeated the Detroit King Crusaders

(10-7, DPSL) in the MHSAA D1 District 22 Semi-Finals by a score of 71-59.

King would score first, taking a 2-0 lead. This would go on to be their only lead of the game.

Despite tying the game a couple times in the first quarter, the Crusaders never regained the lead.

With 2:40 left in the opening quarter, Derrick Miller would score, giving Cass Tech a 10-8 lead.

From this point, the Technicians never looked back. They took a 15-12 lead into the second.

The Technicians continued to pull away in the second quarter. They outscored the Crusaders 16-

11 in the quarter and took a 31-23 lead into halftime.

The third quarter is where the Cass Tech offense showed their dominance. At one point in the

quarter, they led by 21 points.

The Crusaders were not deterred. They made a push towards the end of the quarter, cutting the

lead down to 14. Cass Tech took a 52-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

The game got interesting in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders continued their comeback attempt.

They outscored Cass Tech 21-19 in the final quarter and cut the deficit to 9 at one point. Cass

Tech held strong, protecting their lead. The Technicians would win 71-59.

Kenneth Robertson and Darius Acuff were the leading scorers for Cass Tech. Robertson had 21

points, while Acuff had 17 points and 4 assists.

Chaz Lewless was the leading scorer for King. He had five three-pointers and tallied 29 points

and 3 rebounds.

With the victory, Cass Tech will move on and play Detroit Western (11-12, DPSL) on Friday,

March 10 th in the MHSAA D1 District 22 Finals. The game will be held at Cass Tech and will

start at 7pm.
