Brother Rice Hands Cass Tech TheirFirst Loss

On Friday, the Brother Rice Warriors (21-1, CHSL-Central) defeated the Cass Tech Technicians

(21-1, DPSL) 66-65 in the second game of Operation Friendship. Cass Tech and Brother Rice

are ranked 1 and 2 respectively in The Prep’s Metro Detroit Top 10.

The game got off to a slow start, as no points were scored for almost two minutes. Once the

scoring started, it was coming in bunches. The Warriors had the advantage in the first quarter,

outscoring the Technicians 13-6.

In the second quarter, Cass Tech swung the momentum in their favor. They outscored the

Warriors 22-15. Christian Hairston hit a long two-pointer as time expired, tying the game at 28

going into halftime.

Cass Tech continued their success in the third quarter. The Technicians began to build a lead.

With 5 minutes left, Cass Tech had an 8-point lead. The Technicians took a 46-41 lead into the

fourth quarter.

In the final quarter of regulation, Brother Rice swung the momentum back in their favor. They

outscored Cass Tech 17-12. With under 30 seconds left, the Warriors had a 2-point lead. With 28

seconds left, Darius Acuff scored a clutch basket, tying the game at 58 and drawing a foul. Acuff

missed the free throw, and the game went to overtime.

The overtime period continued the electricity of the fourth quarter. Late in the period, with the

game tied at 63, Sean Hodges had a huge steal for Cass Tech, snatching the ball and scooping it

in, giving the Technicians a 2-point lead with 9 seconds left. The Warriors fought back. With 2.7

seconds remaining, Warren Marshall hit a three-pointer, giving Brother Rice the lead. The

Warriors would win 66-65.

With the victory, Brother Rice extended their win streak to 14 games. In addition, they handed

Cass Tech their first loss of the season.

Marshall was awarded the GBrand G of the Game. Marshall had 25 points in the game, making 5

three-pointers, one of which was the game winner. In his postgame interview, Marshall talked

about the final shot, saying “X found me like he usually does. I was wide open. I knew it was

going in”.

Kenneth Robertson and Darius Acuff led the scoring for Cass Tech with 22 and 21 points

respectively.
