#1 St. Mary’s Prep. sweep the Pilots, make it 18 straight on the season

The number one team in the country, the Eaglets, handled their business Thursday afternoon, sweeping their doubleheader against the Pilots of De La Salle.

In game one for the Eaglets, Clemson commit Brock Porter was lights out. He struck out a total of 15 Pilot batters over a six inning stretch and only allowed one hit and one run to score.

On the other side for the Pilots, sophomore Rhett Roeser was solid against one of the best lineups in the country. He went just above five innings and recorded five strikeouts. He gave up a lot of runs, but not many pitchers in this country can hold down the Eaglets lineup, especially underclassmen.

Offensively for O.L.S.M, the bats were on fire. They recorded 14 total hits and 11 runs. The offensive player of the game for the Eaglets was junior Blake Grimmer. The Tennessee commit racked up three hits in four at bats, and an RBI to go with the hits.

The Pilots did not make much noise with their bats but when Porter is on the mound, that is usually the result.

For game two, it was more of the same from O.L.S.M. and De La Salle.

Sophomore Parker Brzustewicz got the start for the Eaglets and had a fine outing. The underclassmen threw four no run innings and recorded seven strikeouts.

Senior Davenport commit Brandon Skorupski came in to relieve Brzustewicz and ultimately shut the door on the Pilots, pitching two scoreless innings.

For DLS, junior Gabe Jones, much like Roeser, had a rough outing. The upperclassman gave up eight runs through four innings, but the three relievers that came after him did a good job of limiting the high powered St. Mary’s offense, only allowing a combined one run.

Almost everyone had a solid day at the plate for the Eaglets, but junior Michigan State commit Ryan ‘Mini’ McKay had one of the best days of the bunch. The middle infielder recorded three RBIs, two coming by way of his first homerun of the season.

For DLS, they only recorded one hit yet again, this time without scoring a run though. It was truly a rough day for the boys from Warren.

With the sweep, O.L.S.M. moves to a perfect 8-0 in CHSL Central play while De La Salle falls to 2-4 and 6-4 on the season.

St. Mary’s next games will be a morning doubleheader against Detroit C.C. at 11A.M. ET on Saturday.
