#1 St. Mary’s Prep. extends season win streak to seven after win over #9 Hartland

It was a pitchers duel this afternoon as senior Lansing CC commit Nolan Higgins and junior Michigan State commit Gannon Grundman took the mound for the Eaglets and Eagles respectively.

The game only featured six hits in total, and Mary’s accounted for two thirds of them. The Eagles also accounted for all of the game's runs, scoring six of them.

The most impressive performance of the day came from the losing side though as Grundman threw a no-hitter through four innings but some walks, an error, and a homerun given up to senior Auburn commit Ike Irish ended his day and the Eagles chances of leaving Orchard Lake with an upset.

Higgins also had a very impressive day, giving up just one hit to go with seven strikeouts through five innings.

As previously mentioned, the game was very tightly contested through four innings and, besides the Irish homer, one of the most important plays of the game for the Eaglets came on a double play in the top of the fifth when runners were at first and second. The ball was hit right to junior Tennessee commit Blake Grimmer who stepped on third and zipped it over to first to complete the five three double play and save what would have been a momentum shifting and go-ahead run for the Eagles. After that half inning though, St. Mary’s broke it open.

Sophomore Aidan Donovan came in to finish off the Eagles in the sixth and that was all she wrote.

Hartland drops to two and four on the season as O.L.S.M. continues their season long winning streak. Mary’s will attempt to make it nine in a row tomorrow as they face Brother Rice in a double header in Troy. The link to the broadcast can be found here: https://www.stmarysprep.com/
