#1 St. Mary’s Prep. completes regular season sweep of #3 Brother Rice, continues undefeated season

The number one team in the country, the Eaglets, swept the #3 team in the state, according to The PreP, the Warriors, 4-0 in game one and 13-5 in game two.

In game one, Clemson commit Brock Porter started on the mound for O.L.S.M. Early on he looked uncharacteristically rattled, giving up two walks, a sac bunt and a double in two innings, but he eventually settled in and completed the game himself, only allowing one more walk the rest of the way. He recorded nine strikeouts on the day to bump his season total up to 69.

For the Warriors, senior Robert Klann did a good job of limiting the explosive St. Mary’s offense. He only allowed two runs through five innings, but the Eaglets tacked on two more off of him in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

The only home run of the game came off the bat of the G Brand G of the game, Ryan “Minnie” McKay. The Michigan State commit hit a solo shot in the fourth inning to extend St. Mary’s lead to two.

In game one, junior Brayden Dowd was the only Brother Rice batter to manage to record a hit off of Porter, that hit accounting for two bases.

Although the Rice offense was much better in game two compared to game one, St. Mary’s upped their game as well.

Michigan State commit Jake Dresselhouse recorded three runs batted in to go with a ground rule double. The G Brand G of the game finished 2-3 with two walks to boot.

For Brother Rice, Dowd had the best performance yet again. The outfielder went 3-3 with three RBIs and a home run.

On the mound, sophomore Parker Brzustewicz threw four innings while giving up four runs in total for O.L.S.M. Davenport commit Brandon Skorupski relieved Brzustewicz in the fifth inning and finished the job for St. Mary’s. He recorded five Ks while only giving up one run in three innings.

For the Warriors, they used seven different pitchers in six innings. Junior starter Ryan King only threw one complete inning before getting relieved in the second.

Matt Petry and the Eaglets move to a perfect 27-0 on the year while Bob Riker and the Warriors fall to 17-8 and 11-7 in the CHSL Central standings. St. Mary’s will be back in action Friday against Detroit Edison but the next game we will have coverage for is on the 17th against ND Prep.
