Tigers Win on Buzzer Beater

On Saturday, the Benton Harbor Tigers (9-2, Lakeland) defeated the Flint Beecher Buccaneers (8-2, GAC Red) by a score of 64-62.

From the beginning, this was an intense game. We saw five ties and six lead changes as both teams fought until the final buzzer.

Each team had their periods of domination. The Tigers by 15 in the second quarter and the Bucs lead by 8 in the fourth quarter.

The momentum was consistently shifting. The Tigers outscored the Bucs and the first and fourth quarters. The Bucs outscored the Tigers in the second and third quarters. This set up a thrilling finish at the buzzer.

With the game tied at 62, Tigers player Brian Gillespie scored off of a rebound as time expired, giving his team the 64-62 victory.

Grant Gondrezick and Gillespie both had big games. Gondrezick was 10 of 22 from the floor, including 3 of 10 from beyond the arc, as well as 3 of 3 from the free throw line. He had 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Gillespie was 6 of 8 from then field and 6 of 7 from the free throw line. He had 18 points and 7 rebounds, as well as the game winner.

Benton Harbor will take on Niles High School (5-5, Wolverine) on 1-24 as they look to continue their success. Flint Beecher will play Burton Madison Academy (5-1, GAC Blue) on 1-23 as they look to bounce back.
