This past Friday, the Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Eaglets (8-7-1, MIHL-North) defeated the Hartland Eagles (10-4-0, KLAA) by a score of 3-1.

The opening period remained scoreless for until the final minutes. St. Mary’s forward Brennan Morgan scored a beautiful goal to break the tie with just over a minute remaining.

The score would remain until 8:21 left in the second period. While on a 5 on 3 power play, Eaglet forward Matthew Waring found the back of the net after a great pass by forward Marino Seman. Orchard Lake extended their lead to 2-0.

Hartland would finally get on the board a little over three minutes into the final period. In a bizarre play, Eagles forward Ian Kastamo threw the puck at the net. It deflected off an Eaglet body and went in, slicing the Eaglet lead in half.

The momentum seemingly shifted into Hartland’s favor, but they were unable to capitalize. The Eaglets would go on to add another goal off the stick of Seman, making it a 3-1 game.

This was a huge victory for the Eaglets. They came in to face a team with a much better record and were able to pull out a statement win and get their record above .500.

Eaglet goaltender Michael Feit stood on his head in this game, making 34 saves on 35 shots against. Hartland goalie Brady Hubenschmidt made a total of 22 saves on 25 shots against. \

Orchard Lake will take on Cranbrook Kingswood (3-10-0, MIHL-North) on 1-21 as they look to tally a victory in conference play. Hartland will take on Livonia Stevenson (12-3-0, KLAA) on 1-18 as they look to take down one of the top teams in their conference.
