GRIDIRON GAMEDAY WEEK 1 PREVIEW
Andrew Hanania | Thursday | August 25, 2022 | 4:00pm
On Thursday, Detroit Cass Tech and Southfield Arts and Technology will face off to open their seasons. The teams faced off in the season opener last season as well, with Cass Tech winning 49-22.
The two teams have faced off a total of three times during their history and Cass Tech has taken all three games, outscoring Southfield A&T 94-36.
Cass Tech is coming off a (6-4) season in which they made the playoffs for a 14th consecutive season. Southfield A&T is coming off a disappointing (2-7) season, after starting the season (2-1). Southfield A&T is looking to have its first winning season since the school opened in 2016.
The Warriors feature an explosive offense that consists of a future high major QB in 3yr starter Isaiah Marshall, who will target four D1 WR prospects. They can put up points on the ground as well as in the air. The receivers to keep an eye include; leading returning receiver Tashi Braceful and Brother Rice transfer Xavi Bowman
On the other side, Cass Tech has a powerful defense with an excellent pass rush (3 D1 D-line commits). Their two defensive ends, Khamari Anderson (Cincinnatti Commit) and Jalen Thompson (MSU Commit) are both top ten players in the state. Thompson can also work as a DT, giving fellow DE Rasean Randall (N.Illinois Commit) more opportunities to make plays on the edge.
A&T will have Isaiah Marshall, a three-year starter, at quarterback. Marshall has over 20 college offers, including Michigan, Maryland, and Purdue. Cass Tech’s offense will be led by Sr captain Leeshaun Mumpfield (Ferris St/Kentucky St. offers) at quarterback. He will be facing off against Southfield A&T’s three-year starting quarterback Isaiah Marshall (over 20 offers). Both signal callers will be strongly seasoned and expected to make plays for their respective clubs.
The game will be played at Blue Devil Stadium in Southfield and coverage will begin live on “The Prep YouTube” and “NFHS” at 6:45 (Pregame) with a 7:00 kickoff.
