Eaglets Impressive in Win Over Ferndale

On Tuesday, the Orchard Lake St. Mary Eaglets (3-1, CHSL-Central) defeated the Ferndale Eagles (1-4, OAA-Red) by a score of 54-39. 

In the first minute of the game, OLSM took a 2-0 lead. The Eaglets would retain control of this lead for the rest of the game. The first quarter was evenly matched. Orchard Lake led the whole way, but Ferndale kept the game close. 

The second quarter is when the Eaglets began to pull away. They entered this quarter with a 4-point lead and came out with a 14-point lead, outscoring Ferndale 17-7 and leading 32-18 at the half. 

In the second half, the Eagles were able to keep up with OLSM offensively, but they were never able to chip away at their lead. Ferndale outscored the Eaglets in the final quarter, but OLSM still pulled out the 54-39 victory. 

Trey McKenney and Daniel Smythe had big games for Orchard Lake. McKenney went 6 of 11 from the floor, including 6 of 6 from the free throw line. He scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Smythe was 4 of 8 from the field, with 4 of 7 from beyond the arc. He had 12 points, 1 steal and 1 assist. 

Orchard Lake will take on U of D Jesuit (5-0, CHSL-Central) on 1-6. Ferndale will play Sanford Meridian (3-2, JPC) on 12-30.
