Reigning State Champs Pilot TheirWay Past Muskegon

Warren De La Salle (2-0, CHSL Central) took on Muskegon (1-1, OK Green) on Friday night at Lawrence Tech’s Blue Devil Stadium and pulled out an impressive 49-16 win, extending their winning streak to 15 games.

De La Salle got off to a quick start in the first quarter. Quarterback Brady Drogosh found Sherron Sutton II for an 11-yard touchdown reception. The Pilots would miss the extra point, making the game 6-0 with 9:27 left in the first. Around a minute later, after De La Salle recovered a Muskegon fumble, Drogosh would find Sutton II again for an 18-yard touchdown catch, extending the lead to 13-0 with 8:18 left in the quarter. Muskegon would finally get on the board halfway through the first, thanks to an exciting 81-yard touchdown run by Destin Piggee, making it a 13-7 game. De La Salle would respond with a rushing touchdown of their own. Chauncy Shaw found the endzone with an 11-yard run. After a successful two-point conversion, the Pilots had a 21-7 lead.

Muskegon would get on the board quickly in the second quarter. Adrian Ramos Velazquez would make a 28-yard field goal, making it a 21-10 game. Shortly after, De La Salle would find the endzone again. Drogosh would find Triston Nichols for a 43-yard reception. The Pilots now led 28-10 and the score would remain going into halftime. De La Salle started the second half the same way they ended the first half: a touchdown pass from Brady Drogosh to Triston Nichols. This was a 5-yard reception and made it a 35-10 game.

The score would remain until about 1:30 left in the third quarter. Pilots QB Rhett Roeser would find Mason Muragin for a 2-yard reception, making the lead 42-10. The Pilots started the fourth quarter with yet another touchdown. Landon Belesky rushed for 15yards and found the endzone, adding to the lead and making it 49-10.

Muskegon would find the endzone one last time. Wanyai Johnson had a 2-yard carry and gave the Big Reds their first touchdown since the first quarter. They would miss the extra point,making it a 49-16 game.

The G’s of the Game, presented by GBrand USA, were given to Brady Drogosh and MasonMuragin. Drogosh completed 11 passes for 128 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 16rushes for 132 yards. Muragin played both offense and defense. Offensively, he had one reception for 2 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, he had 2 tackles for losses, 5 tackles total, and a sack.

De La Salle will look to continue their winning streak next Friday against the University of Detroit Jesuit (1-1, CHSL-AA). Muskegon will take on Reeths-Puffer (2-0, OK Green) as they look to bounce back after a big loss.
